ISOLATED NATURE

Isolated Nature is a forward-thinking project that harnesses the power of digital technology to transform public spaces into interactive art environments. It challenges traditional notions of art and nature, fosters public engagement, and advocates for sustainable and inclusive cultural practices.

The project explores the impact of digital art into public spaces using advanced technologies like AR, VR, and mixed reality. By creating location-specific artworks that blend the digital and natural worlds, the project explores the intricate relationship between humans, technology, and nature, drawing on ideas from New Materialist discourse.

CONCEPT

Our mission is to engage communities and foster a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature, the human and technology by exploring cutting-edge digital techniques and combine them with ecological research and data to offer new perspectives on nature, technology and the Human.

Inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s concept of constellations and integrating insights from Karen Barad, Brain Musummi and Jane Bennett, our research aims to uncover the agential constellations that bring forth mattering in natural habitats. By mapping the relationships and influences between various ecological, human, and technological agents, we seek to reveal the hidden connections that shape these vibrant ecosystems, like the Aamsveen.

ARTISTIC PROCESS

With Isolated Nature our mission is to explore the intricacies of natural habitats and uncover new ways of experiencing ecosystems through the fusion of art and technology. Our approach involves a dynamic process of data collection, analysis, and artistic creation, all centered around unique environments. We aim to bring this innovative exploration to various locations, each with its own ecological significance.

We begin by immersing ourselves in the natural landscape, utilizing advanced computer vision technologies and other sensing devices to gather comprehensive data on the flora, fauna, and physical elements of the location. This rich dataset becomes the foundation for our creative process. We analyze the collected data to understand the material, semiotic, and social flows within the ecosystem, revealing the hidden connections and interactions that define each location. By visualizing the impact of these flows, we create digital artworks that reflect the dynamic and interconnected nature of these habitats.

Our artworks are designed to be experienced digitally. We inject the extracted data back into the location, using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies to overlay digital information onto the natural environment. Visitors can use their devices to engage with these digital experiences, exploring the ecosystem in new and profound ways.

Through this innovative approach, Isolated Nature not only highlights the ecological significance of the ecosystems, but also fosters a deeper appreciation and connection to nature, bridging the gap between the digital and natural worlds. This journey of exploration and artistic experiment will continue to other locations, each offering new insights and experiences.

Why This Matters

Pushing the boundaries of digital art by integrating ecological data and cutting-edge technologies allows us to create meaningful, interactive artworks that reflect the dynamic nature of ecosystems. These artworks are not just estheticall  explorations; they serve as educational tools that help visualize the invisible connections and interactions within the ecosystem, making the complex intra-relations accessible and engaging.

In essence, this project matters because it bridges the gap between art, technology, and ecology, creating a holistic understanding and appreciation of our natural world. It’s about recognizing the interconnectedness of all things and fostering a deeper, more informed connection to the environment and its constituents. Through community engagement, ecological awareness, and artistic innovation, we aim to inspire and educate, exploring the vast relations and agents within the ecological habitats.
